UNITY — New England Celtic Arts in collaboration with Music New Brunswick and the Kingfield POPS will present Canadian fiddler, Kathleen Gorey-Mc Sorley with Mike Hall, at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, June 20 at 7 p.m.

“Taking a break was a blessing in disguise,” said Gorey-Mc Sorley, “because I learned a lot about myself and my inner strength, and it definitely gave me something to write music about.” While her recorded output to date has focused largely on traditional and contemporary Irish music, she had slowly begun working songs and mandolin into her performances prior to her hiatus, two of several influences that will no doubt be present when she returns to the studio this winter.

Kathleen’s fiddling, dancing and vocals had the Grand Lake Stream Folk and Arts Festival and PEI’s Festival of Small Halls audiences clapping their hands, tapping their feet and dancing in the aisles.

Last July she traveled to Vienna and Salzburg, Austria where she performed with the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra.

“While I grew up with fiddle music and it will always be part of my roots, I see it as a first love and I now have a more mature relationship with songwriting,” she said.
